Invasion of the Dust Mites

This is kinda gross but important to know at the same time.

Dust mites are microscopic organisms that are found around the world.  They live on upholstered surfaces, pillows, mattresses, stuffed toys, carpets and fabrics, In homes they feed on shed skin off humans.  Enzymes found within the waste matter of dust mites are a cause of asthma, eczema, and other allergic reactions.

I can remember  Mother telling  “good night, don’t let the dust mites bite.” Or maybe it was the bedbugs, either way neither are a good thing.

Tips for controlling dust mites:

  • Reduce the relative humidity in your home to below 50 percent
  • Vacuum regularly and thoroughly with a vacuum equipped with a HEPA filter
  • Avoid carpets
  • Properly maintain and replace furnace filters
  • Replace pillows at least once a year
  • Change bedding regularly
  • Always wash bedding in warm water
