CFL or The Old Fashioned Light Bulb

There are two price tags associated with the purchase of every light bulb:  The first being the price paid in the store and the second is the cost of the energy that your new bulb will consume in your home.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.  Changing five standard light bulbs over to compact fluorescent lamps would save you thirty dollars every year.

When buying real estate these days a lot of new homes are equipped with CFLs.

The environmental impacts are even greater.  If every household changed just one incandescent light bult to an ENERGY STAR labeled CFL, the country would save over $73 million in energy costs every year and reduce green house gas emissions by 397,000 tones of carbon dioxide- which would have the same impact on the environment as taking 66,000 cars off the road for one year.

And that’s all well and good. But…have you seen the prices of those energy efficient bulbs? Here in Wichita Kansas their expensive. Notice though the prices are going lower all the time as demand increases.  CFLs are supposed to last for 7 years. Many studies have been done that prove that you will save money, and energy, by switching.

  3. Sometimes it’s really that simple, isn’t it? I feel a little stupid for not thinking of this by myself.
