Black Dog Adopted From The kansas Humane Society

Black dog at Kansas Humane SocietyYay! Bingo, a black dog formerly know as Graham, was finally adopted from the Kansas Humane Society in Wichita Kansas. And I’m so happy for it.

You see, black animals have a really tough time getting adopted from the Kansas Humane Society and other shelters around the country. It’s known as black dog sydrome and it runs rampant through shelters.

On the day after Thanksgiving this year, a day know as Black Friday because of all the retail store sales, the Kansas Humane Society had their own version of Black Friday. Any black animal at the shelter could be adopted free and any other animal at a 25% discount. The shelter practically emptied out that day. When I came to walk dogs at the Kansas Humane Society that following Tuesday there were as few animals there as I had ever seen. Joyous!!Kansas Humane Society

I came across one dog, one little black dog, that got left behind. As you can see he is just cute as a ….button?  He was the sweetest most friendly little guy. I try not to get attached but this time it was impossible. I advocated extra hard for him. Made him my facebook profile picture, tweeted about him, told everyone I knew and finally yesterday he was taken away from the Kansas Humane Society to a new forever home!

He would have made a wonderful addition to my home but we have as many dogs presently as we’re allowed. Besides, if we took every dog that needed a home, well, you get the picture. Volunteering at the Humane Society every week I get a firsthand view of the problem and do what I can to help. But any of us can only do so much.

Please remember to spay and neuter your pets and when ever possible get them from a shelter. As we have the Kansas Humane Society in Wichita Kansas most cities and large towns have their own shelters.

The Kansas Humane society is a model for such facilities everywhere. The building is modern with many amenities for the animals and the staff and volunteers are truly caring.

There was another black dog adopted from the Kansas Humane Society this week and I’m so happy for it!
